Synopsis

AI will play a critical role in the next stage of growth of intelligence and life on Earth— a stage that Vernor Vinge, Ray Kurzweil and others have referred to as a “Technological Singularity.” Most AI research today is controlled by a handful of corporations—those with the resources to fund development. Independent developers of AI tools have no readily available way to monetize their creations. Usually, their most lucrative option is to sell their tool to one of the big tech companies, leading to control of the technology becoming even more concentrated. Do we want a handful of corporations and entities to architect the AIs that will affect almost every aspect of our lives?

In this presentation, Dr. Ben Goertzel, CEO of SingularityNET, shares an alternate vision for AI: one that will improve the lives of all sentient beings on Earth. SingularityNET’s open source protocol and collection of smart contracts are designed to address these problems. Developers can launch their AI tools on the network, where they can interoperate with other AIs and with paying users. By providing a decentralized, open platform for people and AIs to work together on the creation of more powerful, more generally intelligent and more ethical AI services, SingularityNET is intended to increase the odds that the coming radical societal and technological transitions have a positive outcome.
