Technology developments and birth of digital in our everyday lives have resulted in innovation of products and services in areas such as finance and business. Business models, value propositions, delivery and customer relationships are being impacted. Businesses from large MNCs to small businesses have to adapt to the fast-changing landscape. This seminar discusses the digitalization journey of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and how innovation and digitalization can unlock new opportunities for both the SMEs and the tech solutions and startups.

About the Speaker

Pauline Sim started her banking career serving the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) segments of the bank, covering all banking and financing requirements that SMEs have and amassing 15 years of experience in this space.

In 2015, she was part of the team that setup The FinLab, a Joint Venture between UOB Ltd and Infocomm Investments PL, to accelerate the best and brightest FinTech start-ups from all over the world looking to land in Singapore and capture the ASEAN market. The FinLab attracted 700 applications from 44 countries. The FinTech portfolio eventually selected and accelerated by The FinLab is seeing good success with 8 of them recognized at the Singapore FinTech Festivals in 2017 and 2018, and more than getting business traction and funding.

In 2017, The FinLab saw the need to support the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) looking to plug into digital, and worked on extending the acceleration process to local SMEs. On 12 February 2018, Singapore’s first acceleration programme for SMEs was announced and on 12 April 2018, the SMEs participating in the programme were unveiled.

Pauline covers partnership with tech ecosystem partners for both UOB and The FinLab, and also runs the operations and programme management of the accelerator together with the core team.

She was elected into the executive committee of Singapore FinTech Association (SFA), the association for the FinTech community in Singapore, and serves as the Lead for Women in FinTech subcommittee. Through this role, she hopes to showcase the expertise and experience of more female FinTech founders.
