Wealth management is a growing business in the industry. While it is a growing business, it is also a challenging and competitive business. You will hear from a very experienced banker sharing some of the real challenges of running a wealth management business and the strive to build capabilities to drive a more sustainable business.

 

About the Speaker

Mr Dennis Tan

Dennis Tan is the Executive Vice President & Head of Consumer Financial Services, Singapore, at OCBC Bank. He is a member of the OCBC Bank Management Committee and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Mr Tan, 47, joined OCBC Bank in September 2009 as the Head of Branch and Group Premier Banking.

Prior to OCBC Bank, Mr Tan spent 16 years at Citibank Singapore, where he last held the position of Managing Director, Sales and Distribution Head, at its Global Consumer Banking division.

Under Mr Tan's leadership, OCBC Bank's Premier Banking business in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and China saw a steady growth. This resulted in a significant increase in revenue and customer base. Mr Tan also led the team in tripling its Bancassurance business within two years, maintaining OCBC Bank's leading position in the industry.

Mr Tan is a strong believer in service delivery. He enhanced Branch Banking operations and led the team in embracing a substantially higher level of service standards. Under his guidance, new career development processes were developed for new Branch Managers and potential Branch Managers.

Today, Mr Tan oversees OCBC Bank's consumer bank business in Singapore, which includes the areas of wealth management, secured and unsecured lending, personal and premier banking, marketing, e-business, business transformation, risk & prevention, and finance.

Mr Tan's stewardship has helped OCBC Bank receive honours such as The Best Retail Bank, Best Consumer Credit Product and Best Customer Relationship Management, awarded by The Asian Banker in 2013.

In 2014, OCBC Bank's Consumer Financial Services Singapore division, led by Mr Tan, was awarded the Singapore Quality Award (SQA) by SPRING. In 2015, Mr Tan was also inducted into The Asian Banker's 'List of Leading Practitioners'.

Mr Tan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business (Honours with Distinction) from Indiana University, the United States of America (USA), and is a Certified Financial Planner. In August 2012, he completed the Stanford Executive Programme at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, USA, sponsored by OCBC Bank.
