SMU’s computing school heralds a fresh chapter with new name to project its expanded aspirations and role

A global study by Stanford University has identified 17 SMU researchers as among the top scientists in the world. Of these, 9 are from the School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS).

NEW DOCTOR OF ENGINEERING (EngD) LAUNCHED

SMU's School of Computing and Information Systems has launched a new Professional Doctoral Degree, Doctor of Engineering (EngD), to train professionals to perform deep technical industrial research and translate the outputs into innovative products and services.

ONECONNECT-SMU TALENT PROGRAMME AIMS TO TRAIN PHD CANDIDATES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

Quantum Consensus, Chatbot System, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Image Processing, and Computational Vision.

Successful candidates will be full-time employees of OneConnect, and concurrently pursue their PhD in Computer Science at SMU on a full-time basis.

SALESFORCE-SMU TALENT PROGRAMME AIMS TO TRAIN PHD CANDIDATES IN A.I. AND A.I.-RELATED AREAS

These areas include Big Data, Data Mining & Business Analytics, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing. Successful candidates will be full-time employees of Salesforce, and concurrently pursue their PhD in Computer Science at SMU on a full-time basis.

STRONG EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES


In 2020, Information Systems graduates earned the highest salary with a mean monthly salary of $4,683, as compared to the 2019 cohort’s $4,549. The median gross monthly salary is $4,542, up from $4,300 in 2019. Those with Cum Laude or better earned a mean gross monthly salary of $5,064 and a median gross salary of $5,000.
